SUMMARY:July Final Fridays Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Final Friday’s Book Club as we dive into The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez!! This fantasy novel has been a steadily popular one with our community since we opened and if you know someone who has read it\, they’ve likely also made you want to pick it up too. We can’t wait to read through and talk about this one with y’all in community. It does come in at a respectable 544 pages so I’m suggesting we do a check in for the July 25th book club and see where everyone’s at and discuss from there\, then do a final deep dive at our August book club gathering once we’ve all finished. Though if you think we’ve got it and can finish the book by the 25\, reach out and let me know! \nAs always\, the only prerequisite to getting into this club is purchase your book in-person at our shop and showing up for the book club. Please RSVP by getting one of the free tickets below\, this really does help us plan! \n  \nA little more about The Spear Cuts Through Water:\nTwo warriors shepherd an ancient god across a broken land to end the tyrannical reign of a royal family in this epic fantasy from the author of The Vanished Birds. \n“A beguiling fantasy not to be missed.”—Evelyn Skye\, New York Times bestselling author of The Crown’s Game \nWINNER OF THE IAFA CRAWFORD AWARD • WINNER OF THE BRITISH FANTASY AWARD • SHORTLISTED FOR THE URSULA K. LE GUIN AWARD • SHORTLISTED FOR THE IGNYTE AWARD \nONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: Oprah Daily\, Vulture\, Polygon\, She Reads\, Gizmodo\, Kirkus Reviews\, The Quill to Live \nThe people suffer under the centuries-long rule of the Moon Throne. The royal family—the despotic emperor and his monstrous sons\, the Three Terrors—hold the countryside in their choking grip. They bleed the land and oppress the citizens with the frightful powers they inherited from the god locked under their palace. \nBut that god cannot be contained forever. \nWith the aid of Jun\, a guard broken by his guilt-stricken past\, and Keema\, an outcast fighting for his future\, the god escapes from her royal captivity and flees from her own children\, the triplet Terrors who would drag her back to her unholy prison. And so it is that she embarks with her young companions on a five-day pilgrimage in search of freedom—and a way to end the Moon Throne forever. The journey ahead will be more dangerous than any of them could have imagined. \nBoth a sweeping adventure story and an intimate exploration of identity\, legacy\, and belonging\, The Spear Cuts Through Water is an ambitious and profound saga that will transport and transform you—and is like nothing you’ve ever read before.
