SUMMARY:Let's Talk Comics! With Wendy Xu and Bianca Xunise
DESCRIPTION:Restoried Bookshop is excited to host Wendy Xu and Bianca Xunise to talk about their work and geek out over their comics! Join us Saturday\, October 11th at 12pm to meet Wendy and Bianca\, hear about their work\, ask some questions\, and maybe even get something signed. \nWe will have copies of their books available for purchase at the event. \n\nWendy Xu is a bestselling\, award-nominated Brooklyn-based illustrator and comics artist. \nShe is the creator of INFINITY PARTICLE (2023\, HarperCollins/Quilltree)\, TIDESONG (2021 HarperCollins/Quilltree) and co-creator of MOONCAKES\, a young adult fantasy graphic novel published in 2019 from Oni Press. Her work has been featured in various places on the internet including Catapult\, Barnes & Noble Sci-fi/Fantasy\, and Tor.com. She loves obsessing over the perfect line\, making matcha lattes\, and art history. \nYou can find more art on her instagram: @artofwendyxu; on twitter: @angrygirLcomics; or bluesky: @wendyxu \n \nBianca Xunise’s work has been regarded as ‘gripping narrative[s]\, relatable situations\, and evocative artwork with an aesthetic that oozes with late-1970s zine flair.’ With two Ignatz and an NAACP Award under their belt\, Bianca enjoys being a voice for those who march to the beat of their own drum and hopes that their comics are comforting to those who feel like they don’t fit in. Bianca continues to bring rock n roll to illustrative life\, collaborating with legends from Blondie to Bauhaus. When Bianca isn’t doodling away\, they are usually at an underground DIY punk show dancing with friends by the Chicago riverside. \n

SUMMARY:Book Talk - Twice Removed by Zee Lacson
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate local author\, Zee Lacson\, and Filipinx American History Month at Restoried Bookshop! \nWe’ll be discussing her YA novel\, Twice Removed- available in-store during the event. Zee will be reading from her novel\, answering questions\, and signing copies of the book. This event is organized in partnership with our friends at Veloria Coffee who will be joining us with a special beverage making it’s debut at this book talk! \nLocal author x Filipinx American History Month x Coffee x Spooky Season = An event not to be missed! \nHelp us plan for the event by selecting a free ticket below so we can make sure we have enough books and seats for everyone. \n As part of an immigrant family\, Jay has never felt like he belonged in his hometown of New Orleans. In the summer before his senior year in high school\, he thinks things are finally going his way when Maya\, the half-Filipino girl in class he’s had a crush on\, starts talking to him. \nBut Maya has secrets. And the more time they spend together\, the further he’s pulled into a world of magic and superstition. When a generations-old family curse is revealed\, Jay has to find a way to stop this winged\, vampiric monster before sunset on Maya’s 18th birthday.\nIf he doesn’t\, his new girlfriend might kill him.\nOr worse\, he’ll have to kill her. \n— \nZee Lacson\, a first generation immigrant\, has lived half her life in one country and the other half in another. Born and raised in Manila\, Philippines with her grandparents\, father\, and twin brothers\, she now enjoys the small town life in Illinois with her husband and twin sons.  \nShe has had practice in many professions. Engineer. Educator. Photographer. Artist. Storyteller.  \nThe Woolgathering Trilogy is her first completed story. Reverie was published in 2020 and was a finalist in the 2021 Illinois Author Project. Revenant\, its sequel\, was released the following year. The trilogy was completed in 2023 with the final book\, Réveil.  \nTwice Removed was published on Philippine Independence Day in 2024 and won a BIBA (Best Indie Book Award) that year.  \nShe’s never been a big believer of monsters hiding in the dark but she eats lots of garlic and will sleep with a little light on. Just in case.  \nZeeLacson.com
